Dr. Steven J. Lawson
Dr. Steven J. Lawson is president of OnePassion Ministries, a ministry designed to equip and energize a new generation of Bible expositors. Having served as a pastor in Arkansas and Alabama for thirty-four years, Dr. Lawson presently serves as a board member and Teaching Fellow with Ligonier Ministries located in Orlando, Florida, where he teaches in the Doctor of Ministry program at the Ligonier Academy.
Further, Dr. Lawson is Professor in Residence for Truth Remains, a ministry devoted to the study of the English Bibles of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Dr. Lawson also serves on the Board of Directors of The Master’s Seminary and College in Sun Valley, California, where he also teaches as the Professor of Preaching in the Masters and Doctoral programs at TMS on expository preaching. Dr. Lawson is also the Executive Editor for Expositor magazine, the print magazine of OnePassion Ministries.
The primary focus of Dr. Lawson’s ministry is the verse-by-verse exposition of God’s Word, which has made him a regular speaker at The Shepherd’s Conference, Ligonier National Conference, and other conferences. His preaching has taken him around the world, ministering in Russia, Brazil, Ukraine, Scotland, Wales, England, Ireland, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy, and South Africa. His sermons are posted online and listened to in all fifty states and in numerous countries.
The overflow of Dr. Lawson’s diligent study and biblical preaching has resulted in authoring more than twenty books, his most recent releases are The Daring Mission of William Tyndale, The Evangelistic Zeal of George Whitefield, The Kind of Preaching God Blesses, The Heroic Boldness of Martin Luther, Preaching the Psalms and The Gospel Focus of Charles Spurgeon. His other recent books include Foundations of Grace and Pillars of Grace, the first two volumes of a three volume set, The Unwavering Resolve of Jonathan Edwards, and The Expository Genius of John Calvin.
In addition, Dr. Lawson has written three volumes in the Holman Old Testament Commentary Series, Job, Psalms Volume I (Psalms 1-75), and Volume II (Psalms 76-150). He has also authored Famine in the Land: A Passionate Call to Expository Preaching, Made In Our Image, Absolutely Sure, The Legacy, and Faith Under Fire. These books have been translated into various languages around the world, including Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Albanian, Korean, Dutch, Croatian, Japanese, and Indonesian.
Dr. Lawson has contributed chapters to John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine, and Doxology; Preaching Like Calvin: Sermons From the 500th Anniversary Celebration; and Calvin: Towards A New Reformation, works celebrating the 500 year anniversary of the birth of John Calvin. He also serves as the Series Editor for A Long Line of Godly Men Profile, a series of biographies focusing upon noted Christian leaders from church history.
Moreover, Dr. Lawson has written numerous articles for several theological journals and magazines, including Expositor, The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, Bibliotheca Sacra, The Master’s Journal, Puritan Reformed Journal, The Faith and Mission, TableTalk, Decision Magazine, Preaching Magazine, and Discipleship Magazine. Dr. Lawson has taught in the John Reed Miller Preaching Week at Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson) on “The Expository Preaching of Ezra at the Watergate,” the Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series at The Master’s Seminary, lecturing on “Expository Preaching of the Psalms,” and the Nathan B. Maier Lecture Series on Expository Preaching at Dallas Theological Seminary.
Dr. Lawson is a graduate of Texas Tech University (B.B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.), and Reformed Theological Seminary (D. Min.). Steve and his wife Anne have three sons, Andrew, James, and John, and a daughter, Grace Anne.
